Janaozen or Zhanaozen , formerly known as Novy Uzen (, until 1993), is a town in the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan located south-east of the city of Aktau. The name of the town means "new river" in Kazakh. Zhanaozen is a town of regional significance.
