Wikipedia
Yvonne

Yvonne is a female given name. It is French in origin, and is the female form of Yvon, which is derived from the Germanic name Yves. It is from the Germanic word iv, meaning "yew". Since yew wood was used for bows, Ivo may have been an occupational name meaning "archer".

This name first arrived in England with the Norman invasion, along with variations such as Yvette, and male versions of the same name. It was the most popular of all of these names, but eventually died out from usage. It was reintroduced into English-speaking countries in the early 20th century, when it was very popular. It is currently 173rd in the USA popular names list, but is an uncommon name in younger generations. It has also lost popularity in France, where in 1900, it was the 7th most popular name.

Yvonne has several name days: 29 May in Sweden and 8 August in Norway. Common variations of this name include Evonne, Evone, Yvonette, Ivonette, Ywona, Iwona'', Yvonnie, Yvon.

Yvonne (musical)

Yvonne is a musical comedy first performed in 1926. It was written by Percy Greenbank, Jean Gilbert and Vernon Duke (at that time still using his birth name of Dukelsky).

Yvonne was first staged at Daly's Theatre, London, in May 1926, by the company originally created by impresario George Edwardes. Ivy Tresmand took the title role, and Arthur Pusey also starred. Other cast members included Maria Minetti, Mark Lester, Horace Percival, and American dancer Hal Sherman. After its London run, Edwardes' theatre company took the production on tour throughout the UK.

The plot concerned Yvonne, the daughter of an academic, who impersonates a music hall singer. The most successful musical number in the score was "Teach me to Dance", with music by Marc Anthony and lyrics by Harry Graham. Copyright: MCMXXV by Ascherwood, Hopwood & Crew Ltd.
