Yu-jin

Yu-jin, also spelled Yoo-jin or Eugene, is a Korean unisex given name. Its meaning differs based on the hanja used to write each syllable of the name. There are 62 hanja with the reading "yu" and 48 hanja with the reading "jin" on the South Korean government's official list of hanja which may be registered for use in given names.

Yu-jin is a common name in South Korea. Its commonality may be attributed to the fact that it may be given to both boys and girls, as well as the fact that parents in South Korea are increasingly opting for English-style names which have favourable meanings in hanja but at the same time can be pronounced easily by non-Koreans. In the early 2000s, Yu-jin, Dong-won, and Do-hyun were among the most popular names for baby boys, but later in the decade they both fell in popularity, and by 2008 Yu-jin had fallen out of the top ten.
