Later on Shantiraja Arasu Maramma Heggade (son of kumarayya Arasu Maramma Heggade & father of present Ashok Raja) was crowned as the King in the year 1955. It was in between the era of Janappa Arasu and his predecessor about 500 acres of land was elevated and was made suitable for agriculture .It was Shaikh Yusuf Khan,a Muslim saint who was the architect of modern Yermal. There was one river flowing from east part of Innanje which flows through Yermal and merge itself with Arabian Sea in the west side. The large area was always affected badly by floods. As to develop the area Yusuf Khan, a Muslim saint drafted the master plan and diverted the river from Innanje by blocking the water flow to west region. This has impacted the water flow and most of the area of land useful for agriculture, It was told that earlier the name of Yermal was called as" mahishapura" but then turned as Yermal meaning the "elevated land " Yermal also has one of the oldest school which was founded about 105 years ago by H.H kumarayya arasu who was also the district board member (dakshina Kannada district) Now The village has 4 primary and high schools and Pre University College.
