What is "yeren"

The Yeren , variously referred to as the Yiren, Yeh Ren, Chinese Wildman or Man-Monkey , is a legendary creature said to be an as yet undiscovered hominid residing in the remote mountainous forested regions of western Hubei.

Yeren may refer to:

• Yeren, legendary hybrid beast-man of Hubei Province, China
• Yeren (Zhou), "people of the fields" as opposed to guoren, cultured people of the Zhou period settlements

Yeren 野人, "men of the fields", "rustics" - category of population in the Zhou world (11-3 cc. BCE) referring to the people living outside of the Zhou cultural centers.

Lunyu 11:1 provides problematic statement on primacy of the yeren in undergoing influence of the "ritual and music" , that were traditionally thought to be achievements of the Zhou culture. Cf. Hua–Yi distinction.
