What is "xiphidium"

Xiphidium \Xi*phid"i*um\, n. [NL., from Gr. ?, dim. of xi`fos sword.] (Bot.) A genus of plants of the order H[ae]modrace[ae], having two-ranked, sword-shaped leaves.

Xiphidium is a genus of herbs in the family Haemodoraceae first described as a genus in 1775. It is native to tropical regions of the Western Hemisphere.
