What is "waskemeer"

Waskemeer is a village of about 870 inhabitants in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands.

The village lies in the north of Ooststellingwerf. It is named after a pond 2 km to the west called Waskmar, which in turn means 'wash-lake' as it was used to wash sheep.
