WARR

WARR (1520 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an African American Variety format to the Warrenton, North Carolina, USA area. The station is currently owned by Quad Divisions, Inc DBA Darensburg Broadcasting.

WARR went on the air in 1970 in Warren County, North Carolina. Transmitter output was 1000 watts at the time. The station was co-founded by Vernon Steed, owner of the Warren Theater. His partner was Jim Mayers, the owner of WSRC located in Durham, North Carolina at the time. The transmitter power was later increased to 5000 watts during the daytime, but remained at 1000 watts during critical hours. WARR holds a daytime only license.

In 1994, the station was sold to the Johnson Media Group. In 2002, WARR was acquired by Quad Divisions, Inc doing business as Darensburg Broadcasting, headed by Logan Darensburg.

During 2011, WARR aired some North Carolina Central University sports events.

WARR (research group)

WARR (short for Scientific Workgroup for Rocketry and Space Flight) is a scientific workgroup situated at TUM, composed mainly of its students. It was founded by students in 1962 with the goal to compensate for the lack of a chair for space technology at the university at the time. Since the establishment of such a chair in 1966, the group has conducted practical projects, starting with the first successful development and of a hybrid rocket in Germany. One rocket of this type was launched in 1972, another is on permanent display at Deutsches Museum. WARR has recently attained some public attention by for its projects in space elevator competitions, small satellites and interstellar spaceflight concepts.

WARR (TUM)

WARR (German: Wissenschaftliche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Raketentechnik und Raumfahrt, English: Scientific Workgroup for Rocketry and Space Flight) is a student group at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Founded in 1962 by Robert Schmucker, its initial objective was to compensate for TUM’s lack of an institute astronautics. In 1966, the university established such an institute, allowing WARR to focus on the practical aspects of space flight, as opposed to the theoretical. Today, the objective of the student group is to enable students from various fields of study to apply their theoretical knowledge and gain practical experience. One of WARR’s greatest achievements to date is the construction and launch of the first German hybrid rocket called Barbarella, on 12 March 1974, which is now displayed in the German Museum in Munich.
