Vrpolje

Vrpolje is a village and a municipality in Brod-Posavina County, Croatia. It is located 10 km south of Đakovo; elevation 90 m. The population of the village is 2,110, while the total municipality population is 4,023. Chief occupations are farming and livestock breeding. Vrpolje is located at the intersection of the state road D7 Slavonski Šamac - Đakovo - Osijek and the regional roads to Strizivojna and Čajkovci, as well as on the railway junction of railroads Zagreb - Slavonski Brod - Vinkovci (part of Pan-European Corridor X) and Beli Manastir - Osijek - Đakovo - Slavonski Šamac (part of Pan-European Corridor Vc). Also, the motorway A5 is passing nearby.

Vrpolje is visited by numerous tourists and lovers of Ivan Meštrović's art. Meštrović was born here because Vrpolje was a temporary residence of his family (his father was involved in the construction of the railroad Đakovo-Šamac); later on the family returned to Otavice near Drniš.
