Viruvuru is a panchayat village in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is situated on the exact bank of river Pennar (on the other bank one more village namely Sangam), 36 kilometres from Nellore.
Attractions of this village are, A beautiful barrage built by the Britishers on river Pennar called Vaaradhi, an ancient Siva Temple, and a very peaceful Aashramam stated by Sadguru Sri Malayala Swamulavaaru ( Founder Sri Vyasaashramam, Yerpedu, near Sri Kalahasthi and Tirupati) named after the Saint Shuka Maharshi. The main occupation of the villagers is farming. Reddy population is dominating followed by Balija naidu.
It has Schooling up to 10th standard. the primary school is very much in the core village, however the High School is 2km away from the village towards the Pennar barrage. Students attend High School from all surrounding villages like Erraballi, Surayapalem, Kandrika etc. Though the High school was started by Zilla Parishath way back in 1970s, almost 2 decades there was hardly any shed and shelter for the students and teachers. But with very huge trees all around to sit under and teach like Gurukulam.
Lord Siva(Mallikharjuna) Temple will be decorated very attractively during the Pongal festival. Land lords of the village contribute for the majority of the expenses. Even all the migrated pleople visit the village during pongal to have blessings of Lord Mallikharjuna and Bhramarambika Devi.
In Shukaashramam, the attractions are on Guru Poornima and Sri Krishna Jayanthi. Otherwise on daily routine, they do Bhagawatgeetha paaraayanam followed by pooja in early morning and in the evening also Pooja and Haarathi. Lots of trees around the Aashramam. The overall atmosphere of this Aashramam is quite cool, peaceful. A very nice place to spend your vacation. unmatching for the retired couples.
There is also a small Health care center which is not so active. Basically doctors are not ready to be posted there, as it is in the outer limits of the village and also due to safety and security reasons. This was an Alopathyc (MBBS) Hospital earlier and later on converted to an Ayurvedic.
