Valtierrilla
Valtierrilla is a town in the Mexican state of Guanajuato, near the city of Salamanca, and considered the world capital of the fruit-bearing cactus known as nopal ( Opuntia ficus-indica). Valtierrilla contributes 5% of the population of the municipality. It has a population of 13,200 (2007 figure).
Valtierrilla is a developing industrial area, with population projected to increase to 20,000 by 2015. It is the largest populated place in the Salamanca municipality after Salamanca itself, and has a greater population than 15 of the municipal capitals of Guanajuato state; it ranks 35th among towns in the state. Due to a shortage of educational facilities, many students travel to Salamanca.
