Wikipedia
Valine

Valine (abbreviated as Val or V) encoded by the codons GUU, GUC, GUA, and GUG is an α- amino acid that is used in the biosynthesis of proteins. It contains an α- amino group (which is in the protonated −NH form under biological conditions), an α- carboxylic acid group (which is in the deprotonated −COO form under biological conditions), and a side chain isopropyl variable group, classifying it as a non-polar amino acid. It is essential in humans, meaning the body cannot synthesize it and thus it must be obtained from the diet. Human dietary sources are any proteinaceous foods such as meats, dairy products, soy products, beans and legumes.

Along with leucine and isoleucine, valine is a branched-chain amino acid. In sickle-cell disease, valine substitutes for the hydrophilic amino acid glutamic acid in β-globin. Because valine is hydrophobic, the hemoglobin is prone to abnormal aggregation.

Five amino acids were formed- alanine, valine, leucine, glycine, and hydrogen cyanide.

Could memory, he wondered, truly be coded into chains of valine, cysteine and aspartic acid?

CAC, TCA, and GTC, which codes, at least here on Earth, for the amino acids histidine, serine, and valine.

It was the day when I sold the history of Leroi de Valines, the 1st of February.

Since most of the abbreviations consist of the first three letters of the name, they are not difficult to memorize: glycine gly alanine ala valine val leucine leu asparagine asp'Ntb aspartic acid asp glutamine ghrNH2 glutamic acid glu THE HUMAN BRAIN isoleucine proline phenylalanine tyrosine tryptophan serine threonine ileu pro phe tyr try ser thr lysine histidine lys his arginine methionine arg met cystine cysteine cy-S-cy-SH Of the abbreviations that are more than the first three letters of the names, ileu, asp-NH2, and ghrNH2 should be clear.

But it would give a rough percentage composition: so much valine, so much arginine, so much cystine and proline and leucine.

It proceeds much like a zipper, starting with amino acid valine at one end of the chain, closing bond after bond until the protein molecule is completed.
