Uthukottai

Uthukottai is a border town and panchayat town in Tamil Nadu next to Andhra Pradesh, on the banks of the Arani river. It has a channel which helps channel water from the Krishna river for irrigation in Tamil Nadu.

The Uthukottai name is a portmanteau of two Tamil words - Uthu and Kottai. Uthu means water coming from earth and Kottai represents the Muslim Zamindars Kottai located in that place.

The place called Surutapalli of Andhra Pradesh is very near to Uthukottai where the famous Shiva temple is located. This is the only place in the world where lord Shiva is with goddess Paarvathi in sleeping posture.

Uthukottai is located between Chennai and Tirupathi.
