Urica

Urica Is the capital of the parish of the same name situated to 45 km southeast of the populated of Santa Inés, in the state Anzoátegui in Venezuela.

It was founded by the Spaniards around the middle of the 18th century on a plain bathed by the waters of the River Urica and the River Amana, surrounded of the places of child pecuaria of greater fame in Anzoátegui and known like big producing of lower fruits.

In this population took place memorables military operations such as the ones of José Félix Ribas and José Francisco Bermúdez against José Tomás Boves. On 12 September 1814 it gave the Battle of Curareque; on 5 December of this same year the famous Battle of Urica in which it died Boves and thus has his grave in the village. On 27 April 1870 it gave the Battle of Altagracia, and on 20 February 1902, the battle of the Bridge.

In 1879, by disposal of the National Congress of the Republic, is created the Big State of Orient, whose main would be Urica. This territorial political division that, in his moment was conformed by the current states Anzoátegui, Sucre and Monagas, kept valid until 1881 when it received the name of State Bermúdez, for, in 1898, finally adopt the denomination of State Sucre.
