Umuanigo is a kindred in Owellemba Village in Umana Ndiuno, which is in Ezeagu LGA of Enugu State in eastern Nigeria. Umuanigo has 5 major families they are 1.Umu-Ndida, 2.Umu-Eze, 3.Umu-Aboshi, 4.Umu-Ngwu, and 5.Umu-Ani, these families are believed to be a descendant of one Man who has 5 sons and went on to have their own families. These 5 major families are known as Umuanigo, today people from Umuanigo still keep trace of their root and each individual knows which of the 5 families his or her present family belong to.
The use of the word Umu which means Children of in English Language make it possible for one from Umuanigo to be able to trace his or her family lineage, all families in Umu-Ani are descendant of one man, the same with Umu-Eze and the other families.
The modern Umu-Ani have 5 families these are ANIAKOR, MGBACHI, NWEKE, OZOAHAM and OZOANIKWE. These 5 families expanded to 11 families and these 11 families has also expanded and still expanding to date. The same pattern of family expansion in Umu-Ani also took place in Umu-Ndida, Umu-Eze, Umu-Aboshi and Umu-Ngwu, making Umuanigo one big family that has other races and Tribes being married into the family. Today the new generation of Umuanigo has children born of mix culture, Nationality and race.
One of the most interested thing about Umuanigo, is that the people of Umuanigo still recognized that they are big family, their internal problems are resolve with the big family. They don't get marry to one another up till date as they all consider themselves as brothers and sisters.
