Tryphiodorus

Tryphiodorus ( Tryphiodoros) is an incorrect spelling for Triphiodorus ( Triphiodoros). The name means ‘gift of Triphis’ (one of the local deities of his home town Panopolis, today Akhmim, in Egypt). The confusion between the two spellings occurred already in the sixth century AD due to iotacism. He is thought to have lived in the third century AD and his only surviving work is The Sack of Troy, an epic poem in 691 verses. Other recorded titles include Marathoniaca and The Story of Hippodamea.
