Trochoidea (genus)

Trochoidea is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Hygromiidae. The name means "those that are shaped like a top".

(The same name, Trochoidea is currently also used for a superfamily of sea snails with gills, a superfamily that includes the top shells, Trochidae, and the turban shells, Turbinidae.)

Trochoidea

Trochoidea may refer to:

  • Trochoidea (genus), a genus of land snails
  • Trochoidea (superfamily), a superfamily of marine snails
Trochoidea (superfamily)

Trochoidea is a superfamily of small to very large vetigastropod sea snails with gills and an operculum. Species within this superfamily have nacre as the inner shell layer. The families within this superfamily include the Trochidae, the top snails. This superfamily is the largest vetigastropodan superfamily, containing more than 2,000 species.

Note that this taxon is not the same as a pulmonate land snail genus which is spelled the same way: Trochoidea (genus).
