Triptycene is an aromatic hydrocarbon, the simplest iptycene molecule with the formula CH(CH). It is a white solid that is soluble in organic solvents. The compound has a paddlewheel configuration with D symmetry. Several substituted triptycenes are known. Barrelenes are structurally related.
