Wikipedia
Tracy could refer to:
"Tracy" is a song on the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai's 1997 debut album, Mogwai Young Team. The song was written by the band's guitarists Stuart Braithwaite and John Cummings and bassist Dominic Aitchison prior to the 1997 Mogwai Young Team recording sessions.
The song features glockenspiel, guitar, guitar and drums, bookended by a sample from a phone call between Stuart Braithwaite and Will Simon (an employee of the band's American record label, Jet Set) and between the band's drummer Martin Bulloch and Colin Hardie (the band's manager at the time), revolving around a fictional disagreement between Braithwaite and Aitchison. The song differs from the genre the band usually employed at the time, known as "serious guitar music"; instead of being predominantly guitar-based and featuring heavy dynamic contrast, it features a glockenspiel ostinato, remaining dynamically quiet throughout.
"Tracy" received mostly positive reception from music journalists, with album reviews praising the song's quiet dynamics, the usage of varied instrumentation, and the inclusion of the sampled prank calls.
Tracy (1990 – 1997) was a transgenically modified sheep created by scientists at Scotland's Roslin Institute to produce the human protein alpha 1-antitrypsin, a substance regarded in the 1990s as a potential pharmaceutical for the treatments of cystic fibrosis and emphysema. Notably, she is the first transgenic farm mammal ever created.
Alpha 1-antitrypsin comprised 50% of the total protein in Tracy's milk, a remarkably high level maintained after lactation. Similar levels were detected in the milk produced by her granddaughters. A deficiency in this protein in humans can produce lung diseases, and its artificial creation was thought to be a potential success in the diseases' treatment. Clinical trials for the engineered protein in 1998 revealed that it developed breathing problems in patients, and research for the milk as a remedy for the diseases has not continued since then.
Tracy was a UK teen singer from Wembley who recorded 1969-1971 for Columbia UK record producer Bob Barratt. In 1971 she recorded "Strange Love" for the Hammer Horror film Lust for a Vampire, and again as a 45".
"Tracy" is a song written by Lee Pockriss and Paul Vance, which was released in 1969 by The Cuff Links and featured Ron Dante on vocals. Dante recalled recording the vocals for "Tracy" stating, "I put on a lead voice, doubled it a few times, and then put about 16, 18 backgrounds."
The song spent 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 9, while reaching No. 5 on Billboard's Easy Listening chart, No. 5 on the Cash Box Top 100, No. 1 on Canada's RPM 100, No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 4 on New Zealand's NZ Listener chart, and No. 9 on Australia's Go-Set chart.
Tracy (; also spelled Tracey, Traci, Tracie, or Trasci) is originally a British personal name, that refers to the family de Tracy or de Trasci from Tracy-Bocage in Normandy, France. There are several places called Tracy in Northern France and are themselves a combination of the Gaulish male's name ''Draccios', or Latin Thracius, and the well-identified Celtic suffix -āko (place, property).
While the name is unisex, within the United Kingdom it is more generally considered to be a female name, perhaps in part because of its association with the " Essex girl". Particularly during the 1980s, alongside the name Sharon, it was a name considered to be archetypal of the Essex girl. Its popularity peaked during the 1960s, when Tracey was the sixth most popular female name and the alternate spelling Tracy was the 12th most popular in 1964.
The Irish name Tracey is derived from the native Irish O'Treasaigh septs. The name is taken from the Irish word "treasach" meaning "war-like" or "fighter". It is also translated as "higher", "more powerful" or "superior". It may also be derived from the Irish word for three, with an association to the Tuatha Dé Danann.
The first reference to the surname in the Irish Annals was in 1008: "Gussan, son of Ua Treassach, lord of Ui-Bairrche, died."
