Thalisain is situated in Pauri Garhwal district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the nine tehsils of Pauri Garhwal district and is about 1700 metres above sea level, located along the right bank of Purvi Nayar river which originates in the Dudhatoli region of Pauri Garhwal. It is on the left side of Dudhatoli Danda (Mount Dudhatoli - 3100 metres). It is located 100 km. east of Pauri town (headquarter of Pauri Garhwal district) and about 100 km from Gairsain (the much awaited capital of Uttarakhand).
It can be reached from Delhi by National Highway 24 (NH 24) up to Moradabad and then to Kashipur. From Kashipur, the National Highway 121 (NH 121) goes to Ramnagar (location of the Jim Corbett National Park), Garjiya, Mohan, Marchula, Salt Mahadev, Jadaukhand, Dhumakot, Bironkhal, Syusi, Baijro, and finally Thalisain. Railway is available up to Ranmagar and Kotdwar. It is sometimes inaccessible in winters (December to February) as the road is blocked due to heavy snowfall in the region. Thalisain has a couple of banks and a few good shops. This region has the largest forest cover in the whole district and is one of the most densely forested areas of Uttarakhand state. Many small rivers, creeks and waterfalls are in Thalisain region and the nearby Bironkhal and Dhumakot region, which ultimately meet the Ganges. It is also the most high altitude region in the district with many distinctly high hills, like lower Deeba (Talli Deeba in Garhwali language) situated at a height of about 2,500 metres, upper Deeba (Malli Deeba) at a height of 2700 metres, Dudhatoli Danda (3,100 metres).
