What is "tellevent"

The Tellevent (also spelled Televent), established by James F. Land, was the first organized attempt to develop a subscription news and entertainment " telephone newspaper" service in the United States. Although a series of tests over telephone lines were made from 1906 to 1908 throughout Michigan, and the company hoped to eventually expand nationally, it never advanced beyond the exploratory stage.
