Talcher (Odia:ତାଳଚେର) also named as Coal City of Odisha is one of the fastest growing industrial and coal hubs in the state. Because of its huge coal reserves, the city has been ranked among the highest in terms of GDP in Odisha. It is also one of the 4 sub-divisions of Angul district in the India state of Odisha. Situated on the right bank of the river Brahmani, the capital of the erstwhile Talcher State is one of the fastest growing industrial and mining complexes of the country. The city is surrounded by the coalfields under MCL (Mahanadi Coalfields Limited) and has two Mega Power plants like NTPC, TTPS. In Talcher glacial erosion has been found.

Talcher (Sl. No.: 60) is a Vidhan Sabha constituency of Angul district, Odisha.

This constituency includes Talcher, Talcher block and 7 GPs (Kaniha, Kamarei, Badatribida, Santribida, Bijigol, Badagunduri and Jarada) of Kaniha block.

In 2009 election, Independent candidate Braja Kishore Pradhan defeated Biju Janata Dal candidate Mahesh Sahoo by a margin of 8,642 votes.
