Suthumalai or Suthumalay or Chuthumalai is a village in the northern Jaffna District of Sri Lanka. There are number of schools in the village, the oldest one called the 'Sinmaya Bharathi Vithyasaalai' was founded by Mr. Sinnaiya Pillai in 1882 and Sellathurai Pallikoodam (now called Suthumalai Maha Vidyalama). The village also contains many Hindu temples, including most popular and an old Suthumalai Amman kovil; Amman Kovil is the spirit of all communities living around the village and has been focal point for centuries. It also has many other temples and churches Eenchady Vairavar Kovil, Eachady vairavar Kovil and the Church at Suthumali Junction to name the few. Eenchady vairvar kovil is said to be the largest Vairavar Kovil in the world. The village spans a relatively large area starting from Uduvil in the north to Kulapiddy, Kokuvil in the south, Thavady to the east, and Manipay in the west. the village was divided into North, South and Central.

The village has many cottage industries such as Cigar making, koda making, toddy tapping,farming and fishing. There used to be a factory to produce sugar off the Palmerah syrup but has been abandoned due to the disturbances. The village has picturesque places and have been easily accessible from Jaffna town. The cemeteries in Thavady and Manipay were used by the people from Suthumalai.

The village was put on the map by the first public meeting held by LTTE in 1987 to announce their ceasefire agreement.
