Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, subtractiveLAD (a.k.a. Stephen Hummel) is a Canadian electronic musician. In early 2005, subtractiveLAD released his first album, titled Giving Up The Ghost. The following year subtractiveLAD produced another album with Suture. In 2007 he put out No Man's Land. This album marked a shift towards a new electronic sound with added guitar, field recordings, and even hints of vocal texture to his signature style of self-made synthesizer melodies and compressed beats. With his fourth album, Apparatus, in 2008, he delved even deeper into his distinctive emotive world of sound. In 2009, subtractiveLAD put out his fifth album, Where The Land Meets the Sky, followed by Life at the End of the World in 2010 and Kindred in 2011. The album Wilderness was released in 2014.
