Many temporary experiences can bounce all over the spectrum of potential experiences, but stable and continuous adaptation depends upon ongoing holarchical structuralization that must differentiate/integrate its predecessors: unfold, enfold (Grof's "enfolds into itself").

But those states (and the temporary experiences they generate) can be converted into stable, conscious adaptations only through a process of holarchical structuralization: converting states into traits.

Of course, these experiences will still have to be worked through, and they will still have to fit into the ongoing march of structuralization that defines all growth and evolution (tenet I2c).
