n. 1 (context soccer English) A pass played square (not forward or backward, i.e. sideways) 2 (context Gaelic football hurling English) A foul where a player on the attacking team enters the opposing team's small square inside the penalty area before the ball does.

The Square Ball is a fanzine created by, and for, fans of the English football club Leeds United A.F.C.. It was first launched and edited by Ian Dobson in 1989. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, the magazine was relaunched by Michael Normanton and Dan Moylan. January 2010 also saw the launch of "The Square Ball Podcast".
