Sonia (singer)

Sonia (born Sonia Evans; 13 February 1971) is an English pop singer from Liverpool, Merseyside. She is perhaps best known for her 1989 UK number one hit " You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" and for representing the United Kingdom in the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, where she finished second with the song " Better the Devil You Know". Between 1989 and 1993, she had 11 UK Top 30 hits, including " Listen to Your Heart" (1989), "Counting Every Minute" (1990) and " Only Fools (Never Fall in Love)" (1991). In 1994, she starred as Sandy in a West End revival of the musical Grease, while on television she appeared as Bunty in the 1998 BBC comedy series The Lily Savage Show.

SONIA (Sterling Over Night Index Average) is the effective reference overnight rate for unsecured transactions in the Sterling market. Each London business day the SONIA fixing is calculated as the weighted average rate of all unsecured overnight sterling transactions brokered in London by Wholesale Markets Brokers' Association (WMBA) members between 00:00 and 15.15 GMT in a minimum deal size of 25 million GBP with counterparties listed under Section 43 of the UK Financial Services Act 1986.

It was launched in March 1997 by the WMBA, and is endorsed by the British Bankers Association (BBA).

The rate conventions are: annualised rate, act/365, four decimal places.

Sonia is a feminine given name in many areas of the world including the West, Russia, Iran, and South Asia. Sonia and its variant spellings Sonja and Sonya are Russian variations on Sophia, a Greek name meaning "wisdom". The name was popularised by a 1917 bestselling novel, Sonia: Between Two Worlds, by Stephen McKenna.

In Hindi, the name means "golden", derived from सोना sonāa "gold", from Sanskrit सुवर्ण suvarṇa (su "good" + varṇa "color").

Sonia (album)

Sonia is the second album by British pop star Sonia, released in October 1991 on the independent label IQ. Having parted company with Stock Aitken Waterman, the album was produced by Nigel Wright and for the first time Sonia co-wrote some of the songs.

The album features the singles " Only Fools (Never Fall in Love)", " Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" and " You to Me Are Everything", all of which were hits in the UK Singles Chart, while the album itself reached No.33.

The album was repackaged and released as a debut album in the US in 1992, while the album was further repackaged and released in Japan, both met with little success however. Following this, Sonia signed a new record deal with Arista Records when she agreed to take part in the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest.
