Sinéad ( ; or ), is an Irish feminine name. It is derived from the French Jeanette, which is cognate to the English Janet, itself a feminine form of the Hebrew Yohannan, "God forgave/God gratified". Sinéad is also commonly spelled Sinead. The name "Sinéad" is generally translated into English as either "Jane" or "Jennifer", or as the female version of the Scottish name "Jean".

Its release was announced alongside the unveiling of its artwork on 15 April 2011. On 19 May 2011, the band announced that the single would contain special dance remixes, confirming on 10 June that there will be four different versions by Benno De Goeij, Scooter, VNV Nation and Groove Coverage. "Empty Eyes" was the b-side on the 5-track maxi CD.
