Shurdhi

Shurdhi was a weather god found in the mythology of northern Albania. The name Shurdhi derives from the Albanian phrase i shurdhët meaning "the deaf one". Shurdhi is the counterpart of another god, Verbti ("the blind one"). Albanologist Baron Nopcsa wrote that the Shurdhi traveled in clouds producing hail, and could be repelled with noise and gunshots, and identified the figure with the ancient Thracian thunder deity Zibelsurdus, who was also greeted with weapons. The word shurdhi derives from Latin surdus ("deaf").
