sensory nerve

n. a nerve that leads from receptors toward or to the central nervous system

Wikipedia
Sensory nerve

A sensory nerve/neuron is a nerve that carries sensory information toward the central nervous system (CNS). It is an enclosed, cable-like bundle of afferent nerve fibers (the axons of sensory neurons) in the peripheral nervous system (PNS). These fibers link sensory receptors on the body surface or in the tissues to relevant processing circuits in the CNS. Sensory nerves are often paired with motor nerves, which are bundles of efferent nerve fibers that travel from the CNS to the PNS. Stimuli cause nerve impulses in the receptors and alter the potentials, which is known as sensory transduction.

Usage examples of "sensory nerve".

This sensory nerve is attached at the junction of the pons and the medulla.

Repetitive stimulation of the sensory nerve resulted in a steady decrement in the motor neuron response.

But I can locate nerve bundles that lead to the ears, throat, and tail, and separate the sensory nerve bundles from the motor impulse bundles.

All we know of the world passes through our sensory organs and is reduced to electric impulses in certain sensory nerve fibers.

Butte affirms it is a depressant to the sensory nerve centres and is useful in neuralgia and pruritis.

This process apparently deserves to be called a reflex action, in the same manner as when a sensory nerve is irritated, and carries an impression to a ganglion which sends back some influence to a muscle or gland, causing movement or increased secretion.
