Saraswatichandra (film)

Saraswatichandra ( Hindi: सरस्वतीचंद्र) is a black-and-white Hindi film released in 1968. It starred Nutan and Manish among others and was directed by Govind Saraiya.

The film was adapted into a modern-day TV series of the same name, Saraswatichandra by Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and currently airs on Star Plus.

The film was based on Saraswatichandra, a Gujarati novel, by Govardhanram Madhavram Tripathi, set in 19th-century feudalism in India. It also won the National Film Awards in the Best Cinematography and Best Music Director categories.

Saraswatichandra (novel)

Saraswatichandra is a Gujarati novel by Govardhanram Madhavaram Tripathi, an author of early twentieth century from Gujarat, India. Set in 19th-century feudalism in India, it is a widely read piece of Gujarati literature.

The novel was written over a period of 15 years, with the first volume being published in 1887 and the fourth one in 1902.

The Hindi film Saraswatichandra, released in 1968, was based on this novel, as is the 2013 television series of the same name which was broadcast on Star Plus in 2013–14.

Saraswatichandra is an Indian soap opera, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and written by Ved Raj and Abhijit Sinha. The show was initially based on Govardhanram Tripathi's novel of the same name. It aired on Star Plus from 25 February 2013 to 20 September 2014. It is dubbed into Malayalam as Swayamvaram.
