Sahgalabad

Saigolabad is a small town in Chakwal District, Punjab, Pakistan.

Saigolabad was formerly known as the village Khothian. During the time of Mughal Emperor, the land was gifted to Bawa Haji Shah Badshah as Na-nau Nufqa-e-Sadaat and Azadari-e-Imam Hussain (A.S). His tomb is still present in the main graveyard of Sehgalabad. As he had no interest in temporal things he asked one of his followers named Sultan, who was by caste Mirasi and had embraced Islam on his hand, to cultivate the land and share earnings.

In 1799AC Sikh conquered Punjab and they distributed all the land amongst their own community. Zaildar was appointed by Sikh Government in the surrounding area whose Headquarter was at Saidpur. Sikh victors abate the gifted land and capture it under their own control. Sultan descendants were tenants of the Sikh Zaildar who was very cruel with them and used to put heavy stones on their bellies and kept it up till they pay the tax to the Zaildar.

In 1848 Syed Sawan Shah, who was a descendant of Bawa Haji Shah Badshah, killed the Sikh Zaildar. Once Sikh Zaildar tried to cut down a tree under which Bawa Haji Shah used to worship God. For the descendants of Bawa Haji Shah and other true Muslims that tree was very respected and blessed. So when Syed Sawan Shah who was the chief of Sadaat family at that time, heard about the incident he lay in wait for Zaildar and on his arrival killed him. At the time of incident a person (descendant of Sultan) accompanying him, fled after seeing this and Sawan Shah was arrested by Sikh government. Syed Sawan Shah’s family left Khothian and move to Aadhi situated in Tehsil Gujar Khan where his followers were living. Syed Sawan Shah was arrested and kept in the jail for at least one year. Afterwards he was crucified on a stem of tree.

On 28th February 1849, 11th day of Shah Sahab swear punishment English army conquered Punjab and all the Jails of Punjab were got broken. Someone nearby also set Shah Sahab free by pulling the nails out from hands and foot. It was God's mercy that Shah Sahab was alive at that time and lived for 5 to 6 years afterward. When he was released his family returned to Khothian. People of Khothian witnessed the presence of white marks on the palm of Shah Sahab. During the English rule the descendants of Sultan declared themselves as Jut Wadhan. Now they are saying that they are Malik’s and descendants of Qutab Shah which is nothing but a cruel lie. If we go through the parental record of Mr. Sultan written by his descendant Mohammad Nawaz in his book it is clear, that name of at least 10 persons above Sultan are Hindu’s name. Which is obscure that how a Muslim person can have Hindu name in the period of Muslim Regime? For example, one of these 10 persons was named Khothi, which clearly shows that it is a non- Muslim name. Over time, the village became associated with the Sahgal family, and was renamed as Saigolabad. The Sahgal family financed the construction of a school and hostel in Saigolabad in the 1950s. This is known as Saigolabad Model High School. Now it has the status of "Union Council Khothian" and 12 other small villages (Rabal, Sarkal, Budhial, Chabri, Chabar, Chak Jharhy, Punjain, Mohrha Gujran, kehwal, Dhok Mian Mehr and Chak Kharak) are associated with it. Indeed, it is lack of knowledge, this person Shoaib Khalid Subhani is by cast barber and he amended the history intentionally even do not know the ABC of history of town Khothian. In fact this piece of land is the property of landlord Raib Khan the great who gifted this to legend Muhammad Sultan Khothi who was already Muslim and migrated from famous village of Khothian(Jalip) Jehlum in reward to protect Raib Khan from Sikh invaders and looters while Syed Haji Shah sahib(RA) was also residing there.

The story is much deeper and interesting by the viewpoint that if "Sultan" the Great was a Mirasi by cast it cannot be justified because according to the history of Punjab and the area a waste land property like Khothian Village can not be cultivated by a Mirasi and Syed Haji shah was a wise and pious person who could not be able to hand it over to a Mirasi who definitely would have not be able to cultivate that land. The true story revealed by the original possessors of the land is such that Sultan was 6th or The 7th son of a rich Khothi Jaat residing the Jalip, Jehlum and had a fight with Sikh army there. When the rest of the brothers saw the younger one in trouble they made him escaped from the area with some 30 to 40 servants and some pairs of milking cattles. He migrated from Jehlum and took shelter in the dense jungle place naming "Pind" in these days where The Sultan's Graveyard is located near village Rabbal where Baba Raib Khan was also residing with his family. When the servants of the Raib Khan saw the outsiders in such style they became worried and informed Raib Khan who himself went to Sultan and asked about the intentions. After meeting with Sultan Raib Khan who was incapable to defend his peoples from the Sikh invaders he asked for help and protection from Sultan against Sikh invaders. Even he offered Sultan to marry with his daughter or granddaughter and offered a piece of land to cultivate that suited Sultan because of the manpower and resources. Sultan raced his horse and covered his territory, Raib's servants poled the footprints of the Sultan'horse and when Sultan reached at the place "Baqar Singh Wali Banh" that was a rain water pond when the horse stopped for water after drinking water the horse fell down and died there this was the last pole of the territory which can be witnessed even in this age.

Sultan shifted from Rabbal and settled at Pind(Khothian) the name given after the name of his Old village in Jehlum. He grew up with his population and was called the Great Founder of the Village, his descendants shifted from Pind and settled in the center of the village where Haji Shah sahib was already residing, they had good time with each other. The famous sons of Sultan are Fateh Muhammad Babeka who set the generation of Babkas, Wali khothi, Baba Azam Khan(Dajum), Baba Haji Nadir khan, Khan Bahadur, Baba Godarh khan, Baba Fazal khan(Wadda), Baba Elahi Bakhsh, Baba Yousaf Numberdaar, Baba haji Ghulam Muhammad Baabka, Brigadier(R)Imteaz Ahmed, Ejaz Ahmed Secretary(R) of Federal Accountability Bureau,Muhammad Nawaz Nawabi, Haji Fazal Ahmed Babka, Ashraf Nawabi, Haji Pervez Akhter, Hafiz Muhammad Nawaz Sahib, Sufi Muhammad Ejaz Muhammadial.
