Rusaddir

Rusaddir is a Catholic titular see and was a city in the Roman province of Mauritania Tingitana, on the site of what is now Melilla in Spain. Rusaddir ( Rusadir) was a Phoenician settlement, and the name means a high cape.

This city is mentioned by Ptolemy (IV, 1) and Pliny (V, 18) who call it "oppidum et portus", also by Mela (I, 33), under the corrupted form Rusicada and by the Itinerarium Antonini. During the Middle Ages it was the Berber city of Mlila. It appears in the Barrington Atlas of the Greek and Roman World associated with a tribe known as the Herpeditani. There is no record of any bishop of this see.
