Roccal-D

Roccal-D is a disinfectant manufactured by Pfizer that is used in many animal care facilities and some biological laboratories. It is effective against bacteria including Mycoplasma, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, E. coli, and Salmonella. It also destroys viruses including canine parvovirus, parainfluenza-3 and pseudorabies.

Roccal was originally produced by Winthrop Laboratories. Its active ingredients include quaternary ammonium compounds from the family of benzalkonium chlorides and didecyldimethylammonium chloride. These compounds are nitrogenous cationic surface active agents. Benzalkonium chloride is a mixture of alkylbenzyl dimethylammonium chlorides of various alkyl chain lengths. The greatest bactericidal activity is associated with the C12-C14 alkyl derivatives.

The current formulation of Roccal also includes tributyltin oxide.
