What is "richelieu"

Richelieu was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1867 to 1935.

It was created by the British North America Act, 1867 and was amalgamated into the Richelieu—Verchères electoral district in 1933.

In 1968, a new electoral district was created under the same name which is now known as Bas-Richelieu—Nicolet—Bécancour.

Richelieu is a provincial electoral riding in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It includes the city of Sorel-Tracy and various other municipalities.

It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1936. It disappeared in the 1939 election and its successor electoral district was Richelieu-Verchères.

However, Richelieu-Verchères disappeared in the 1944 election and its successor electoral district was the re-created Richelieu.

In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained territory from Nicolet-Yamaska and from Verchères electoral districts.

It is named after former French Cardinal Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu.

Richelieu is a 1914 American silent drama film directed by Allan Dwan and featuring Lon Chaney. The film is now considered to be lost. It is based on a play written by Edward Bulwer-Lytton.

Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy (generally shortened to Richelieu) is an 1839 historical play by the British writer Edward Bulwer-Lytton. It portrays the life of the Seventeenth Century French statesmen Cardinal Richelieu.

The play has become best known for its line " The pen is mightier than the sword", spoken by the Cardinal in Act II, Scene II.
