Rhadamanthus \Rhad`a*man"thus\, prop. n. [L., fr. Gr. ???.] (Greek Mythol.) One of the three judges of the infernal regions; figuratively, a strictly just judge.

Rhadamanthus

In Greek mythology, Rhadamanthus or Rhadamanthys was a wise king, the son of Zeus and Europa. Later accounts make him out to be one of the judges of the dead. His brothers were Sarpedon and Minos (also a king and later a judge of the dead).

Rhadamanthus was raised by Asterion. He had two sons, Gortys (associated with Gortyn, Crete) and Erythrus (founder of Erythrae).

Rhadamanthus (horse)

Rhadamanthus (1787 – after 1793) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a career that lasted from April 1790 to 1793 he ran nine times and won five races. In the summer of 1790 he proved himself one of the best British colts of his generation, winning the Epsom Derby while still undefeated. He raced until the age of six, winning three further races. All of his runs apart from the Derby were at Newmarket.
