What is "reichsvogt"

Reichsvogt (literally: Imperial Vogt; or Imperial Bailiwick for the so-called Reichsvogtei area) was the term for the office of a Vogt that was nominated by the king of the Holy Roman Empire as his representative. Especially in today's Switzerland, Reichsvogt was a very influential position in the High Middle Ages.
