Red Cliff (film)

Red Cliff is a 2008-09 Chinese epic war film, based on the Battle of Red Cliffs (AD 208–209) and the events at the end of the Han dynasty and immediately prior to the Three Kingdoms period in ancient China. The film was directed by John Woo, and stars Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Zhao Wei, Hu Jun and Lin Chi-ling . It is Woo's first major film since 2003's Paycheck and his first Chinese-language feature since 1992's Hard Boiled, also starring Leung.

In China and much of Asia, Red Cliff was released in two parts, totaling over four hours in length (288 minutes). The first part (146 minutes) premiered in Beijing on 2 July 2008 and the second (142 minutes) was released in China on 7 January 2009. Outside Asia, a cut-down single 148 minute version was released in 2009. However, the full-length two-part version was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the United Kingdom on 5 October 2009, and in the United States and Canada on 23 March 2010.

The first part of the film grossed US$124 million in Asia and broke the box office record previously held by Titanic in mainland China.

Red Cliff (Shin-Sen)

is a song by Chinese singer Alan, from her debut Japanese-language studio album Voice of Earth (2009). Written by Gorō Matsui and composed by Taro Iwashiro, it was used as the theme song for the Chinese epic film Red Cliff. "Red Cliff (Shin-Sen)" is Alan's fourth single in the theme of traditional elements; representing fire in the Japanese Godai and Tibetan Bön. The single released on October 15, 2008, and peaked at number twenty-three on the Oricon charts.

The song is a Japanese version of "Xin·Zhan (Red Cliff)" from Alan's Mandarin-language EP Xin Zhan: Red Cliff (2008). A slightly longer end roll version was included on the Red Cliff original soundtrack album released in Japan. A modern rock version of the song was used to promote the PlayStation 2 video game Dynasty Warriors 6: Special Edition, which later appeared as a bonus track on Voice of Earth, when the album was pre-ordered from Tower Records.

Red Cliff (Peking opera)

Red Cliff (赤壁 chì bì) is a traditional Peking opera. The China NCPA made a new modern adaption of the opera which premiered at the first anniversary of the National Grand Theatre in 2008. The director was the choreographer and PLA lieutenant general Zhang Jigang, best known as deputy chief director of the Beijing Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.

In China the opera appeared in three versions - for older singers, youth, and children - as part of the educational purpose of the project. The opera then toured Europe.
