Wikipedia
Rallycross is a form of sprint style automobile racing, held on a closed mixed-surface racing circuit, with modified production or specially built road cars, similar to the World Rally Cars, although usually with about stronger engines, due to e.g. their 45 mm turbo restrictor plates. It is mainly popular in the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Great Britain. An inexpensive, entry level type of rallycross is the Swedish folkrace or its Norwegian counterpart, the so-called bilcross. The folkrace is most popular in Finland where it was founded back in late 60's. In Europe, rallycross can also refer to racing 1:8 scale off-road radio-controlled buggies.
Rallycross is a term for motorsports where automobiles are raced on closed permanent mixed-surface circuits or temporary unpathed surface tracks. It may refer to:
- Rallycross, in Europe, a sport where several cars start at a time and travel several laps around a permanent mixed-surface circuit (usually tarmac and gravel) together. Although the cars are different, it bears some resemblance to sprint car racing in the United States
- SCCA RallyCross, in the United States, a timed event that involves solo driving on grass or dirt in a manner that that is similar to how American Autocross events are driven on asphalt or concrete
