Prosophobia

Prosophobia (from the Greek proso meaning forward and phobos meaning fear) is an irrational fear of progress. The term is often interpreted as a concern that progress will ruin people's lives through the effects of changes and new advances, despite being a fundamental component of humanity and life. Some may even believe that making progress would bring the world closer to an apocalypse.

People with moderate fear of progress may hold an instinctually negative or reactionary standpoint to new advances in technology or thought, prefer old-fashioned things, older styles, and primitive techniques such as cooking over a fire. Extreme prosophobes may choose to live a lifestyle free from modern devices such as cell phones, computers, and TVs, and shun or isolate themselves from other people who use such technology.
