Power tower

Power tower may refer to:

  • Power Tower - a thrill ride at Valleyfair and Cedar Point amusement parks in the USA
  • Power tower (power take-off) - a type of mechanical power take-off (PTO)
  • Solar power tower - a type of solar power plant
  • Tetration - a mathematical operation also known as power tower, superexponentiation, hyperpower
  • Transmission tower - usually a tall steel lattice tower supporting an overhead electric power line (aka electricity pylon, hydro tower, etc.)
  • Power tower (exercise) equipment can include pull up handles, dip bars, push up grips and captain's chair forearm pads.
Power tower (power take-off)

A power tower is a type of mechanical power take-off (or pto) which resides on an auxiliary transmission. It is mounted to the top of an auxiliary transmission (also known as a brownie or joey box) and its vertical housing has earned it the name power tower. Unlike traditional transmission or engine mounted power take-offs the power tower can provide the engine's full rated power output. It is commonly used to drive large winches or hydraulic pumps. Unlike the power take-off of an agricultural tractor, the attachment of any device to the power tower is usually permanent.

The power tower can also refer to a stand alone gear box which provides the same function as a power tower, but does not provide any gearing for the output shaft to the drive wheels.

Power tower (exercise)

A power tower, also known as a knee raise station, and sometimes referred to as a captain's chair, is a piece of exercise equipment that allows one to build upper body and abdominal muscle strength. When only the forearm pads alone are used for performing abdominal exercises, usually referred to as simply 'the captain's chair.' The captain's chair requires minimal arm strength as it is stable and movement occurs in the hips and torso. The equipment commonly has a backrest and forearm rests that form the chair, with vertical handles at the ends of the arm rests. The word "power" comes from the addition of other powerful arm exercises such as parallel horizontal handles for performing dips, a pull-up bar attached to the top for chin-ups and pull-ups, and push-up handles that are usually found on the bottom for Atlas ("deep") push-ups.

Power tower (Linz)

The Power Tower is the first high-rise office tower to attempt to meet the strict Passive House energy efficiency building standard. It was built to house the corporate headquarters of the Austrian utility company Energie AG in Linz, Austria.

In accordance with the Passive House standard the building has no connection to the local district heating system, and requires no fossil fuel inputs to maintain a comfortable interior climate, resulting in much lower carbon dioxide emissions than comparable buildings. The energy demands of the 74 m tower, located in the Linz train station district, are instead met by a dynamic combination of existing technologies, applied in novel ways. The building was in part built to demonstrate that extreme energy efficiency is possible even in very high density developments, and garnered a great deal of media attention in Austria and the EU over the course of its construction from 2006 to 2008.
