What is "pottankad"

Pottankad (Malayalam: പൊട്ടന്‍കാട്) is a village located in Idukki district of Kerala state, India. Which is about 3020 ft above sea level. A popular tourist place Munnar is within 20 km of Pottankad. Mostly the people are depending on agriculture and the main cultivations are cardamom and black pepper. Climate conditions are moderate because of the high altitude.

This place is included in Bisonvalley Panchayath and the Taluk is Udumbanchola.

There is an educational institution, St. Sebastian's High School. A place for worship is St. Sebastian's church. There are two financial institutions, State Bank of Travancore Pottankad Br. and Pottankad Co-operative Bank.
