Poitín

Poitín , anglicized as potcheen or poteen , is a traditional Irish distilled beverage (40%–90% ABV). Poitín was traditionally distilled in a small pot still and the term is a diminutive of the Irish word pota, meaning "pot". The Irish word for a hangover is póit. In accordance to the Irish Poitin technical file it can only be made from cereals, grain, whey, sugar beet, molasses and potatoes.

Poitín (1977) was the first feature film to be made entirely in Irish. It was also the first recipient of a film script grant from the Arts Council of Ireland.

Poitín (band)

Poitín is a Celtic band from the Czech Republic. Founded in 1996, they have been active since 1997 and their music includes traditional Irish music, Scottish music, English folk songs and original compositions in the Celtic genre. Their most recent album, Wish was released in March 2014. The preceding CD Bofiguifluki, released in 2010, was the first recording by a Czech band to be voted Celtic Album of the year 2010 by Celtic Radio.Net. They were one of the first Celtic music groups to form in the Czech Republic after the Velvet Revolution and have had a significant influence on the development of the Celtic musical scene in that country.
