Phloretin \Phlor"e*tin\, n. [From Phlorizin.] (Chem.) A bitter white crystalline substance obtained by the decomposition of phlorizin, and formerly used to some extent as a substitute for quinine.

n. The phloroglucin ester of paraoxyhydratropic acid, found in the leaf of apple trees.

Phloretin is a dihydrochalcone, a type of natural phenols. It can be found in apple tree leaves and the Manchurian apricot.
