Pengerang is a subdivision or " mukim" in Kota Tinggi District, Johor, Malaysia. Pengerang is also known as a small custom cum immigration post. It has a road leading to Sungai Rengit - a town in Pengerang. Pengerang has many natural resources, sea life and unique landforms. It is well known as a destination for seafood and has a beautiful seacoast. There are many religious landmarks such as temples. Pengerang coastal batteries (a fort), located nearby Tanjung Pengelih, are a heritage trail of World War II. The battery was constructed at the mouth of Sungai Santi, overlooking the sea towards Singapore and was abandoned after the war. The battery, located at Tanjung Pengelih, is said to be the biggest defence fort outside the United Kingdom. It sits on a 610ha plot of land and once had barracks and a hospital. Pengerang battery is a lost fortress located in Johor State in Malaysia. Overlooking the sea towards Singapore, it is located close to a Malaysian military camp, standing on the top of a little hill covered by jungle.
The Johor State Government has picked Pengerang for a catalyst project for rural transformation program. Johor’s Chief Minister Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the area has seen steady development over the last few years as investments poured in because of the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex. “When Pengerang was chosen as the location for an oil and gas hub it was not only to give a positive impact to the country but to also transform rural areas where the people will reap the rewards of development,” he said at a press conference after presenting 100 agriculture land grants at Taman Bayu Damai, Pengerang on 23 February 2015.
Pengerang is a federal constituency in Johor, Malaysia, that has been represented in the Dewan Rakyat since 2004.
The federal constituency was created in the 2003 redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to the Dewan Rakyat under the first past the post voting system.
