Papineau (electoral district)

Papineau (formerly Papineau—Saint-Denis and Papineau—Saint-Michel) is a federal electoral district in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1948 to 1988 and since 2004. Its population in 2006 was 101,019. Justin Trudeau, who is currently Prime Minister of Canada and Leader of the Liberal Party, has represented the riding since the 2008 federal election.

The name of the riding comes from a street in the Villeray neighbourhood, named after Joseph Papineau.

At nine square kilometres, it covers the second smallest area of any federal riding in Canada, after Toronto Centre. Linguistically, 45% of residents list French as their mother tongue, 8% list English, and 47% list neither English nor French, with large groups speaking Spanish, Italian, Greek and Arabic. The total immigrant population is 40 per cent.

Papineau (Montreal Metro)

Papineau is a station on the Green Line of the Montreal Metro rapid transit system operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM). It is one of two Metro stations which service Montreal's Gay Village, part of the Centre-South district in the borough of Ville-Marie It opened on October 14, 1966, as part of the original network of the Metro. It briefly served as the terminus of the Green Line until Frontenac station was opened two months later.

Papineau (provincial electoral district)

Papineau is a provincial electoral district located in the Outaouais region of Quebec, which elects members to the National Assembly. It includes part of the City of Gatineau, and municipalities such as Val-des-Bois, Thurso, Papineauville, Montebello, Ripon and Montpellier.

It was created for the 1923 election from part of Labelle.

In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost Val-des-Monts to Gatineau electoral district but gained some territory in the city of Gatineau from Chapleau electoral district.

The riding was named after Louis-Joseph Papineau, Canadian politician and leader of the Quebec Patriotes in the 19th century.

Papineau (foaled 6 April 2000) was a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. Unraced as a juvenile, he showed promise as a three-year-old in France, winning two races including the Prix de l'Avre. As a four-year-old, he was campaigned in England and was unbeaten in three starts. After winning a minor race on his seasonal debut he won a strongly-contested edition of the Henry II Stakes and then recorded his biggest success in the Ascot Gold Cup. He made two appearances as a five-year-old but failed to recover his best form.
