In 1995, a group of students, faculty and alumni from Oklahoma State University traveled to the University of Florida to witness its annual pep rally known as the Gator Growl," which would become the inspiration for Oklahoma State's "Orange Peel" event.
A month after witnessing the Gator Growl, student leaders were selected and the planning and preparation for the first Orange Peel began.
When creators contemplated on a name they decided to get away from OSU's longstanding cowboy theme and establish a unique school identity. So to honor Oklahoma State University's primary color the rally became known as "Orange Peel". After deciding on the pep rally name, the students decided to let the campus submit ideas for a mascot. From this contest, the mascot "Pulp" was born. He was to be an orange wearing a cowboy hat and boots.
With a mascot and a name, the team forged ahead developing a mission statement and a set of goals. The mission was simple and ambitious: "To become the largest student-produced concert event in the country and provide the OSU family with national and local headlining entertainment."
Within a few years, the event has attracted such big-name entertainers as Alan Jackson, Jason Mraz, Lit, Pablo Francisco, Incubus, Sinbad, Barenaked Ladies, Better Than Ezra, Vanessa Carlton, Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls, Blues Traveler, David Spade, Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Cosby, Damon Wayans, Randy Travis and Ben Folds.
In 2006, country superstar Alan Jackson, comedian Bill Engvall, and The Hero Factor performed.
Orange Peel of 2008 was held at the Gallagher Iba Arena on October 3, 2008, and featured Sugarland, Motion City Soundtrack, Kellie Pickler and Ashton Shepherd.
The 2009 event featured Jimmy Fallon and Jason Aldean.
As of August 1, Orange Peel for the 2007-2008 school year has been canceled. Cancelation has been attributed to the financial insolvency of past events and outstanding debt owed by the University Student Government Association to the University Student Union (Allegedly $300,000). Multiple attempts by student leaders to "bring back Orange Peel" have been dismissed by school administrators as recently as 2013. It is widely believed that the administration has little interest in brokering a payment workout given their long standing campaign to discourage events which might encourage the consumption of alcohol.
Orange Peel was a Thoroughbred stallion that had a significant influence on the breeding of sport horses.
Orange Peel has had a great influence on the breeding of show jumpers. Orange Peel sired 19 sons from 1924-1940, and his descendants are very successful today, with 26 of the top 100 show jumping sires of 1990 having him in their pedigree.
One of Orange Peel's greatest descendants was his grandson, the Anglo-Norman Ibrahim, who produced such great sires as Quastor (1960) and Almé Z (1966). Sons of Orange Peel include The Last Orange, the sire of Ibrahim, Jus de Pomme, and Plein d'Espoirs.

Orange peel is a certain kind of finish that may develop on painted and cast surfaces, even screen protectors. The texture resembles the surface of the skin of an orange. Gloss paint sprayed on a smooth surface (such as the body of a car) should also dry into a smooth surface. However, various factors can cause it to dry into a bumpy surface resembling the texture of an orange peel. The orange peel phenomenon can then be smoothed out with ultra-fine sandpaper, but it can be prevented altogether by changing the painting technique or the materials used. Orange peel is typically the result of improper painting technique, and is caused by the quick evaporation of thinner, incorrect spray gun setup (e.g., low air pressure or incorrect nozzle), spraying the paint at an angle other than perpendicular, or applying excessive paint.
In some situations, such as interior house paint, the orange peel texture is generally desirable. In this case, a texture paint is generally applied with a spray gun. The texture is then painted over with the appropriate color. When painting walls, orange peel can also develop by using a roller with too little paint or too thick a paint and the surface dries before the texture can level.
