Oloibiri

Oloibiri is a small community in Ogbia LGA located in Bayelsa State, in the eastern Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The inhabitants of Oloibiri community are mainly fishermen and farmers. Oloibiri is a historic town to the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. Nigeria first commercial oil discovery was made at (Otuabagi/Otuogadi) in Oloibiri district by Shell Darcy on Sunday 15 January 1956.

Oloibiri has many firsts to its credit in the Nigeria Oil and Gas industry:

• Oloibiri-1 well is the first commercial oil well in Nigeria.

• Oloibiri-1 well is the first completed commercial oil well in Nigeria. It was completed on June 1956.

• Oloibiri Oilfield is the first commercial oil field in Nigeria.

• Nigeria first crude oil export came from Oloibiri field in February 1958.

• Nigeria first crude oil pipeline was laid from Oloibiri oil field to Port Harcourt on the Bonny River (Bonny Export Terminal).

The development of the oil and gas industry in the Nigeria will be incomplete without a mention of Oloibiri where it all started. Oloibiri field launched Nigeria into the limelight of Petro Dollar State.
