What is "nuala"

Nuala is a character in the comic book series The Sandman, by Neil Gaiman. She first appears in Sandman vol. 2 #26 (May 1991), and was created by Neil Gaiman and Kelley Jones.

Nuala is an Irish female given name, derived from Irish mythology - being either a diminutive form of Fionnuala ("fair shoulder"), the daughter of Lir, or an alternate name for Úna (perhaps meaning "lamb"), wife of Finnbheara, king of the fairies.
