Nozomi (train)

is the fastest train service running on the Tokaido/ Sanyo Shinkansen lines in Japan. The service stops at only the largest stations, and along the stretch between Shin-Osaka and Hakata, Nozomi services using N700 series equipment reach speeds of . The trip between Tokyo and Osaka, a distance of 515 kilometres, takes 2 hours 22 minutes on the fastest Nozomi.

The trains stop at fewer stations than the Hikari trains. On the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, Nozomi trains stop at Tokyo Station, Shinagawa Station, Shin-Yokohama Station, Nagoya Station, Kyoto Station, and Shin-Ōsaka Station. On the Sanyō Shinkansen, all Nozomi trains stop at Shin-Kobe Station, Okayama Station, Hiroshima Station, Kokura Station, and Hakata Station, but certain trains stop at additional stations as well. The Nozomi train service is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass.

The word nozomi in Japanese means "hope" or "wish".

Nozomi (spacecraft)

Nozomi (のぞみ) ( Japanese for "Wish" or "Hope," and known before launch as Planet-B) was a planned and launched Mars- orbiting aeronomy probe. It did not reach Mars orbit due to electrical failures. Operation was terminated on December 31, 2003.

It was constructed by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, University of Tokyo and launched on July 4, 1998 at 03:12 JST (18:12 UTC) with an on-orbit dry mass of 258 kg and 282 kg of propellant.

Nozomi was designed to study the upper Martian atmosphere and its interaction with the solar wind and to develop technologies for use in future planetary missions. Specifically, instruments on the spacecraft were to measure the structure, composition and dynamics of the ionosphere, aeronomy effects of the solar wind, the escape of atmospheric constituents, the intrinsic magnetic field, the penetration of the solar-wind magnetic field, the structure of the magnetosphere, and dust in the upper atmosphere and in orbit around Mars. The mission would have also returned images of Mars' surface.

Nozomi, officially stylized as nozomi, is the first photobook by Japanese model Nozomi Sasaki, released in late 2008 by Shueisha.

It consists of photographs of Sasaki taken in Hawaii, Tokyo, and several other places. It also contains her swimsuit photos, without-makeup photos, and several interviews with her.

In its release year of 2008, three commemorative events were held in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sasaki's home city, Akita.

On July 24, 2009, Nozomi Sasaki's first DVD, also titled Nozomi, was released. This DVD documents the making of the photobook.
